CDL Major 1

So the first Major of the CDL season has finished and what a Major it was, we had upsets, clutches and shit talking!

Let’s start with Optic, probably one of the biggest upsets Optic were not playing their best. Scump and Shotzzy were still shining however they still failed to win the group qualifier round, losing to Toronto Ultra and Florida Mutineers. In their group play Optic beat Mutineers it was a close match but with clutches in map 5 SND round 11 it got them across the line, vs Toronto Ultra they lost 3-0 the match wasn’t close at all with most of the team with negative K/Ds it was clear they weren’t up to the challenge of facing Scrap and the Ultra guys. Vs the Mutineers Optics Hardpoints were their strong modes however losing in SND and Control is where they failed to impress, one moment from Illey was him shooting bodies and tea bagging the enemy after he clutched up to win the round, they would later to go on to lose the map. Probably not the best thing to do in an elimination match.

Toronto Ultra looked good, Scrap got the first 40 bomb of the season vs none other than the current world champions LA thieves who would later be eliminated which was another big shock. Toronto had to fight to stay in the tournament after a loss to FaZe however they went on to beat Thieves in a 3-1 elimination match sending Thieves crashing out of the Major.

Grand finalists Seattle Surge also beat LA Thieves and also beat their opponents in the final New York Subliners they had a clear sweep through the bracket winning every match however they failed to finish the job in the finals vs New York Subliners. NYSL had a great tournament up until they lost to Seattle, however with wins in elimination round 2, 3 and finals they were out on top and into the grand finals. There was a moment where Hydra had an issue with his controller, it had disconnected and wasn’t working leading them to lose the round, unlike Minnesota Rokkr in the opening weekend with the SAE the map wasn’t to be replayed and they were told to get on with it, this fuelled the fire in them and they didn’t stop winning. They even dominated in the final, winning 4-1 in an epic final.

Hydra took the stage and was lost for words and after drama with Crimsix all he could say was that he was happy he proved him wrong!

From the matches I watched I’m already looking forward to qualifiers and Major 2! Bring it on!
